Long Title: An Act to make provision for the constitution of port authorities for certain major ports in India and to vest the administration, control and management of such ports in such authorities and for matters connected therewith.

Section 1: Short title, commencement and application.
    (1) This Act may be called the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963.
     (2) It shall come into force on such date1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
     (3) It applies in the first instance to the major ports of Cochin, Kandla and Vishakhapatnam, and the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, apply2 the provisions of this Act to such other major 3*** port and with effect from such date, as may be specified in the notification.
