Long Title: An Act to foster the development and ensure the efficient maintenance of an Indian mercantile marine in a manner best suited to serve the national interests and for that purpose to establish a National Shipping Board to provide for the registration, certification, safety and security of Indian ships and generally to amend and consolidate the law relating to merchant shipping.

Section 253: Information to be sent to ports of embarkation and discharge.
    (1) The officer appointed by the Central Government in this behalf at any port or place within India at which 2[a special trade passenger ship] or a pilgrim ship touches or arrives, shall send any particulars which he may deem important respecting the 3[special trade passenger ship] or pilgrim ship, and the 1[special trade passengers] or pilgrims carried therein, to the officer at the port or place from which the ship commenced her voyage, and to the officer at any other port or place within India where the 1[special trade passengers] or pilgrims or any of them embarked or are to be discharged.
     (2) The officer aforesaid may go on board any ship referred to in sub-section (1) and inspect her in order to ascertain whether the provisions of this Act as to the number of 1[special trade passengers] or pilgrims and other matters have been complied with.
