Section 12: Damages for extorting payment of rent by duress.
    If payment of rent, whether the same be legally due or not, is extorted from any under-tenant or ryot by illegal confinement or other duress, such under-tenant or ryot shall be entitled to recover such damages, not exceeding in any case the sum of two hundred Rupees, as may be deemed a reasonable compensation for the injury done him by such extortion. An award of compensation under this Section shall not bar or affect any penalty or punishment to which the person practising such extortion maybe subject by law.
