Act Name: The Gram Nyayalayas Act, 2008

Long Title: An Act to provide for the establishment of Gram Nyayalayas at the grass roots level for the purposes of providing access to justice to the citizens at their doorsteps and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of social, economic or other disabilities and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Section 40: Power of State Government to make rules.
    (1) The State Government may, by notification, make rules for carrying out the provisions of this Act.
     (2) In particular, and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing power, such rules may provide for all or any of the following matters, namely:—
         (a) the salaries and allowances payable to, and the other terms and conditions of service of, the officers and other employees of the Gram Nyayalayas under sub-section (2) of section 17;
         (b) the sitting fee and other allowances payable to, and the other terms and conditions for engagement of, Conciliators under sub-section (2) of section 27.
     (3) Every rule made by the State Government under this Act shall be laid as soon as may be after it is made, before the State Legislature.
